“You may not know they exist, but the best music arrangers can lift a song to new heights, making all the difference to whether it’s a hit or not.” – Unknown
Over the years, Aubrey has produced some of the most recognizable music arrangements that have become synonymous with the songs they are part of. To date, Aubrey has won an unprecedented 4 ‘Best Music Arrangement’ awards at the Malaysian Music Industry Awards (AIM). Here is a selection of his work.
Mahligai Kayangan (Salamiah Hassan)
Helming as the producer and music arranger on Malaysian legend Salamiah Hassan’s ‘Aku’ album , Aubrey found success with this ‘jazz, big-band’ arrangement of a local classic as it went on to bag him his 4th ‘Best Music Arrangement’ award at AIM 21.
Bukan Cinta Biasa (Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza)
‘Bukan Cinta Biasa’ was Aubrey’s first taste of ‘success’ as a music arranger, being awarded an AIM for ‘Best Music Arrangement’. Till today, this song remains a classic with its all-too-familiar accordion introduction that Malaysian music fans instantly recognize.
Awan Yang Terpilu (Original Artiste: Ning Baizura)
Aubrey’s delicate handling of this classic sees the song build from a soft and gentle beginning, gradually growing towards a grand, climatic ending. ‘Awan Yang Terpilu’ went on to win ‘Song of the Year’ for Ning Baizura (artiste), Lin Li Zhen (songwriter) and Loloq (lyricist). Here is an orchestral arrangement specially arranged for the Aubrey’s concert with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring Dayang Nurfaizah on vocals.
Seindah Biasa (Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza)
‘Seindah Biasa’ earned Aubrey another AIM award for ‘Best Music Arrangement’. Originally written as a ballad, this somewhat medium tempo pop arrangement lends this song its unique sound with unforgettable guitar riffs and backing vocal counterpoints.
